The single market forum

Since 1992, the Single Market has brought tremendous benefits and created new opportunities. But free movement of people, goods, services and capital does not always come about easily. The full potential of the Single Market is still unexploited.

After a wide open debate, on 13 April 2011 the Commission has adopted the Single Market Act setting out a package of twelve key actions to further develop the Single Market.
The First Single Market Forum will address all these questions from 2 to 4 October in Krakow (Poland).

About the Forum

The Single Market Forum (SIMFO) aims at bringing together citizens, businesses and public authorities from all over Europe to take stock of the single European market as well as to discuss on new ideas for forthcoming initiatives and on how to improve implementation of the Single Market Act.
Organised jointly by the European Parliament, the Polish Government (holding the Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers in the second half of 2011) and the European Commission, this year's Forum will be held in Krakow, Poland on 2-4 October.

The conference is expected to bring together more than 1,000 citizens, businesses, consumers, representatives of the Member States (including at regional and local level), national parliaments, stakeholders and European institutions. All participants will share their experiences on the functioning of the Single Market.
The two-day forum in Krakow will be the first of a series of similar conferences in coming years. It will mark the starting point of a constant debate among EU institutions and stakeholders on the development of the Single Market.
